Reflection

My reading habits today and when I was a child have changed in many ways. My reading habits are basic, although I only read when I have to I actually pay more attention when I read now. I look for new vocabulary words and try to make sense of the text by learning about the background and thinking outside the box. My reading habits today are improving and I am still going to work on them so there is no room for improvement anymore. I don’t have many strengths as a reader but I have a lot of weaknesses. When I read I get distracted easy and tend to take a lot of breaks. I don’t like to read so I think that’s why I get distracted so easily. My grandmother loves to read. She will seat on her couch and read a book in one day. Every since I was little she has read and she told me she loves to read. When I was growing up I wasn’t really encouraged to read. I would get books from the school library and read the required reading. I just wasn’t into reading that much, it wasn’t one of my favorite hobbies. My parents did not read to me as a child because my mom was busy, she was a single mother so she didn’t have the time to read. My grandmother read to me for a little bit because my mom had to work so I was with my grandmother but she didn’t read to me continuously.

  1. Reading for me is difficult too and just like you it is hard for me to sit still and not get distracted.
Very well written reflection post I enjoyed reading it.
You should always think outside the box no matter what, I am glad to hear that your reading is improving.
When I was younger my parents were always busy working as well and didn’t really encourage me to read either.
Did you enjoy being read to as a child?

  2. I agree with you on taking a lot of breaks in reading and not really paying attention to what I'm reading. Thats why I read a lot of books that I find interesting. My grandfather loved to read anything and everything so I have a personal connection with you and your grandmother reading. My mom is also a single parent so she never pushed reading on me either like your mom. Have you tried reading something that pertains to what you're interested in?

  3. I agreed with you when you said, I don’t like to read so I think that’s why I get distracted so easily. I liked that now you pay more attention to what you are reading now. Good for you. I have a connection when you say you mother never home and was always busy. My mom is the same way single always busy but one in a while she try’s to read to me. When you said you were not encourage to read well imp sorry that’s to bad but I relate to that I was not encourage as well so were on the same boat. When you said you just got books from the library and you would just read the required reading. I would just be doing the same it wasn’t my forte.

  6. I agree with this reflection because i have a personal connection to this as well. In many ways our reading habits are the same, for example; growing up i wasn't encouraged to read and my mom never really had the time to sit and read a book to me.

  7. In many ways I am just like you, my reading habits have changed a lot since I was a child too. When I was a child I would love to read but now I don’t like to read at all. When I was growing up my parents didn’t to me either but you had your grandma to read to you; I didn’t really have anyone to read to me. I agreed with you, I have a hard time understanding the text when I don’t understand the vocabulary too. Overall I think your reflection on your reading habits was very good.

  8. The Reflection post that you have wrought is good and makes a lot off sense. This is because many people did not have the opportunity to learn about books, until they went to prey school or alimentary school. Some people have the chance to have privet totters, but what you have wrought is good. My uncle can read a book, and remember many things really fast. There are people that say if family members read to the children when they are young they have a better opportunity to learn a lot more. There are parents that are busy but you have family that taught you to read a little but it was good.
